Snorkeling And Skin Diving Classes

Swimming in the Ocean, a Lake or the Swimming Pool is a fun and enjoyable activity and sport. Snorkeling with a Mask, Snorkel and Fins can make that experience much more fun, particularly in locations where there are fish, corals, wrecks and other people or objects located beneath the surface that you want to see, explore or experience.

Virtually anyone can learn to Snorkel. The activity has no age requirement. Very little skill is necessary – as long as you can enter the water you can learn to snorkel. But learning and practicing a few simple techniques will improve your comfort and enjoyment levels.

The equipment you need is a good quality Mask, Snorkel and Fins. Some people feel more comfortable also using a Snorkeling Vest to keep afloat, and a Wetsuit for keeping warmer. These are items we discuss during a Snorkeling Class. Snorkeling can be enjoyed both on the surface of the water as well as diving down holding your breath for very short intervals. Some people, however, learn to hold their breaths a little longer and want to easily dive down and be able to stay a bit longer (usually only a few minutes per dive). In this case we teach Skin Diving techniques where we have you use a wetsuit and weights in addition to using a Mask, Snorkel and Fins.

If you are unfamiliar with Snorkeling, or just want to learn a few techniques to enhance your Snorkeling enjoyment, taking a Snorkeling Class is for you. You will learn how to chose a mask, snorkel and fins and proper mask fit; proper preparation of a mask; how to defog a mask; how to properly use and clear a mask of water while Snorkeling or Skin Diving; proper method of putting on (donning) and removing (doffing) fins and proper fining technique; proper placement , use and clearing of your snorkel; and proper breathing and swimming techniques.

The average Snorkel instruction lasts about 1-2 hours and ranges in cost from $25-$50 per session. Snorkeling usually only requires one session. Skin Diving may require one to three sessions. We do provide each student with Mask, Snorkel, and Open Heel Fins with Boots; however, most students do purchase their own Mask, Snorkel and Fins for their own personal fit and enjoyment.
